Senator Jim DeMint

My Reply

3 January 2012

Dear Senator Jim DeMint,

Thank you so much for acknowledging my concern of the “uncritical American support of Israel”. May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Happy New Year. With your support and that of your fellow senators, may the New Year bring great hope and joy to the Palestinian people and the realization of their wish of a homeland in Palestine.

You said, “As the only democracy in the Middle East, Israel is an important foundation of stability in that troubled region.  However, I remain committed to the vision of a safe and secure Israel living side by side with a peaceful and sovereign Palestinian state.”

You are not the only one with such a wish; the whole world is waiting for it to happen. Unfortunately, it seems apparent that Mr. Netanyahu is not a man of peace. When Charlie Rose interviewed Mr. Netanyahu, it came across to most of us that Israel does not want peace.  When asked, “What would you be willing to give up?” Mr. Netanyahu becomes defensive. Mr. Rose goes on to say, “No, no, you are saying you want to take certain territories beyond the ’67 borders, and therefore I am saying, what your map looks like?” Mr. Netanyahu continues with a most ridiculous and evasive answer to, perhaps, the most important question about this conflict.

One of the Charlie Rose web site contributors said “If you watch the last 5 or so minutes of Charlie Rose’s most recent interview with chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erakat, he re-counts a meeting that he had with the Israeli chief negotiator, Isaac Molho…in which delegates from the US state department (including Secretary Clinton herself) were in attendance. At this meeting, Erakat presented the Israeli representative a map as well as Palestinian positions on various issues, including but not limited to, Israeli security. After being presented with possible solutions to bring this 20 year (since Oslo) negotiation to an end and achieve peace, the Israeli chief negotiator flatly declined to even look at the documents, and proclaimed that Israel will have a military presence in the Jordan valley for at least 40 more years. You can hear the desperation in Erakat’s voice. The reality is the Palestinians have everything to gain from a peaceful resolution. Freedom, Dignity, Human rights, Independence, an economy of their own, water, education and healthcare for their children. It is not logical for the side that has nothing, to stall the peace process, or refuse to make peace.”

Can you now see where the world’s problem with this continuing conflict lies? As long as Mr. Netanyahu still has this old mindset, we can forget about a homeland for the Palestinian people unless a miracle happens! In a remarkable video from 1978, the 28 year old MIT graduate, Benjamin Netanyahu debates whether there should be a Palestinian state created on the West Bank and Gaza. The young Mr. Netanyahu argues that such a state would have but one goal: to destroy the Jewish state of Israel.

We have often heard the Israeli government tell the world that the Palestinians are trying to drive the Jews into the sea. Now who is driving who into the sea? And recently we heard from Newt Gingrich that the Palestinians are historically “an invented people” and that the Palestinian leadership has always sought to destroy Israel. How dare Mr. Gingrich, a politician with the ability to exert influence the thinking of many Americans, make such a unilateral decision and espouse an opinion reaching millions of people that erases the legitimacy of an entire race of people.

Please read this article about Palestinians Identity written by Daoud Kuttab a Palestinian journalist who was born and lives in Jerusalem. Perhaps you will find it enlightening. http://dearmmlee.wordpress.com/category/petition-palestine/palestinian-identity/

Please have the courage to stand up for the Palestinians instead of simply backing the Jews and Israel without question. Many of us in the world are very disappointed by the lack of balanced and fair treatment for the Palestinians and their pursuit of their own homeland.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity,

Sunflower Chong

Dear  Ms. Sun Wah,

Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition to uncritical American support of  Israel .  I appreciate hearing from you.

As the only democracy in the Middle East,  Israel is an important foundation of stability in that troubled region.  However, I remain committed to the vision of a safe and secure  Israel living side by side with a peaceful and sovereign Palestinian state.

Until this occurs, I will continue to support efforts to bring peace and security to the people in the Middle East and Israel’s pursuit for recognition and security.

Thank you again for sharing your views with me.  Please feel free to contact me in the future about anything important to you or your family.  It is an honor to serve you and the people of  South Carolina

Sincerely,

Jim DeMint
United States Senator

Dear Senator Jim DeMint,

I hope to get your support for this Petition for a Palestinian State.

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/call-for-support-for-a-palestinian-state.html#sign

The success of the “Arab Spring” tells us that a “Global Spring” is possible to achieve, too. And it can begin with nothing more than a click of your mouse supporting our petition. The Palestinian people need our support now more than ever, for a “Global Spring” to finally achieve a homeland for their people. To build a better world, everyone must care. We must have the strong faith that we can build a better world for all.

On behalf of the Palestinian people, I thank you all very much for your support. Please spread the word.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity,

Sunflower Chong
