This was the letter that got me writing to then Senator Barack Obama

10 February 2008

Dear Mrs Michelle Obama,

I am Sunflower Chong from Singapore. I was troubled this morning after reading the local paper today. This was what you had said, “I don’t want to paint some unrealistic picture of who we are so that in the end, when it falls apart and if we haven’t lived up to this unrealistic expectation, people feel let down in some way. This is who we are: I’ve got a loud mouth. I tease my husband. He is incredibly smart, and he is very able to deal with a strong woman, which is one of the reasons why he can be president, because he can deal with me.”

Firstly, nothing will fall apart because Mr Barack Obama will be America 44th President. He can be president not because he can deal with you but because he is the chosen one. Not only is America in deep water but the once peaceful world has been turn upset down by President George Bush and we really need a special man to change the tide and Mr Obama is the man.

Life is about compromises and when Mr Obama, your husband swears on the 20th of January 2009, you must make a conscious effort not to speak so loud. Why?

You must give him the respect that he deserves as the President of America and thus help paint a good image for him worldwide. In private with all your family and friends you can be as loud as you want to be but when you are in public it will be wise to choose your words carefully. (Be an asset and not a liability to him. Why should you expose your vulnerability to allow others to attack you or your family.) This does not mean you are lowering yourself but instead professing your true love to him. I am very sure that the women around the world will salute and also envy you. Your family will be a great role model for the world what a beautiful family should be.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity

Dear President Barack Obama,

You are the CHOSEN ONE not only to save America from going downhill but more so to mend our broken world cause by the wrong policies of George Bush!!  With you as the 44th President of America I believe all world leaders will come on board readily to support your effort to end the war in Iraq.  With your statesmanship America will rise again winning back the respect from the entire world that will enable you to lead us to a  ‘A New World Order’ or ‘A New Earth’ as Eckhart Tolle has entitled in his new book.

In your book ‘Audacity of Hope’ page 218 this was what you had written, “Jefferon  Leland’s formula for religious freedom worked. Not only has America avoided the sorts of religious strife that………………… …………………………………… This brings us to a different point the manner in which religious views should inform public debate and guide elected officials.”

I believe I got an answer to your query to bring the world in harmony.

We need to come out with a book to unite all humanity.  Now is the time and you are the brave one who can help us to reach this ultimate goal.

Islam and Christian agreed to ONE GOD.  If it is true my argument here is that we must write a book to unite all humanity.  It is not a book to replace the religious books but one that will enable the non-believers to strive to be a good human being.  By striving to be a good human being you are already a good Muslim, or Christian, or Buddhist… This book will anchor onto The Consciousness.  The Consciousness is the present of God – God equals to The Consciousness. (I remembered vividly what my teacher said, “If you have The Consciousness you know what is right and wrong, it is so powerful like God.  It is liked you have the book in your head 24/7, this mean God is constantly with you.”  Furthermore, she added that it is only when you have developed The Consciousness then you could reach the sub-conscious. And this subconscious is so powerful like you know what God’s purpose for you in this world like God is talking to you.  Can you bit it, this belief had made me who I am today.)  In order for this book to be materialised we need to invite world religious leaders from all faiths to contribute teachings that will unite humanity.

My name is Sunflower Chong Sun Wah and my daughter is Greta Georges Habib.  We are the founders of World Harmony Day, an event designed to reiterate the fact that we must value human lives and learn how to share this “One World” for peace and harmony to prevail.

We have marked WHD every year since 20 Feb 2002.  All WHD asks is for people wherever they are to remember this day of “The Consciousness” (or “Social Responsiblity” as my daughter would prefer to put it,) on 20 Feb at 20:02 and to annually observe a “2 mins Peace Silence” –

1 min for “World Peace” the 2nd min for “Our Own Peace”.

True Harmony happens when not only our soul interact with GOD but when we are able to manifest it in a meaningful way with our fellow being and touch them, to inspire them and to live in a more joyful, harmonious way…

Doing an event like WHD is about giving oneself to society to uplift the moral and spirit of the people…. world harmony is about a spirit, a spirit of willingness from each and everyone of us to understand to respect and  to uplift the others around us… humans, animals, plants… a spirit which makes choices based on the harmony of the whole (planet). It is a spirit of peace, gratitude, righteousness…the spirit of loving-kindness.

WHD came about because the world is NOT in Harmony and our conscience had propelled us to take action.  WHD was born out of necessity because there is an urgent needs to create an awareness and understanding that we have only ONE World as our home, thus we must learn how to share this world by caring and loving humanity so peace and harmony can prevail.

“World Harmony Day” declaration.

1) To remind everyone to have “The Consciousness” for the World Trade Centre incident.  It is a great awakening for Humanity, which compelled us all to take responsibility, and play a part each day in bringing peace and harmony back for the sake of our children in the present and of the future.

2)  To promise ourselves that on this day forward 20th February 2002 at 20:02, a candle will be lighted up for 2 mins to symbolize no more violence should be used to resolve conflicts.

3) It is our utmost duty and responsibility to remind the future generations not to take peace for granted.  If PEACE is what they want, they must be proactive in shaping the future world not only for themselves but more so for their children’s children.

World Harmony Day is not a new religious organization it embraces common themes found in Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism as well as many, many others.  Love and empathy, peace and tolerance liberate: all citizens of the world, as they’re all forms of the diverse range of people participating in WHD.

It is a movement that embraces Peace Harmony and Unity at its core.  Anti–violence and seeks peace.  WHD is a spiritual movement of The Consciousness, which brings the world into oneness.  It emphasizes on valuing human lives, cultivating good human relations and respecting human rights.  WHD is calling us to be more humane.

It is a movement, which helps one to find their place in spending time proactively helping others.  This makes our existence more relevant and contributing to the Bigger picture in our lives and helping others.

Proper actions and decisions made by this current generation will help to set the next generation up for better times to help deal with Peace keeping.  If it is not contained then other chain reactions like hunger, disease, poverty, refugees and degeneration of our environment will spread out like wild fire.

World Harmony Day’s “seekers of truth & peace” are people from all over the world who believed common citizens working together can and will make a profound difference.  The true spirit of World Harmony Day is in bringing all the citizens of the world together in oneness.  In short, WHD goal is to plant “seed of peace”, to bring peace and harmony to the world.

Please visit the website www.worldharmonyday.com and I am confident that after going through it, you will find it a worthy cause to support our vision and help us in whatever way you can in order to further our mission and help bring the world back into balance in our current troubled world.

In your book ‘Dreams from My Father’ page 294, you said, “The audacity of hope! I still remember my grandmother, singing in the house,’There’s a bright side somewhere….don’t rest till you find it…..’

I have never rested all my life and I think at the age of 53 years it is time for me to take a good rest especially I have found you to make it happen for the world.  Everyone in Singapore said someone got to do the job (to write this book) but not me.  I sincerely HOPE it is you as you are the only leader in the world who dares to talk on  RACE issues and came out great.  After race talk it got to be religious talk and who is going to do this talk if not President Barack Obama.

I am sharing with you “A Concept Paper for the Community” written by some great men in America. http://www.dearmmlee.com/community/ Their proposal was rejected by George Bush.  I hope you can support their aspirations.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity,

Dear President Obama,

A True Politician is doing God’s job and you will be the exemplary. This is the kind of change you need to make, as it is the core to change America and the world at large.

You are the Chosen One, God puts you there and He will get you there with or without Hillary Clinton. The people in America believe in you, all you need is to believe in yourself and Almighty God.

God did not make it easy for you for a good reason – To toughen you and to allow the people to feel and know the real Barack Obama. All you need to do is to continue to do God’s job by being true to yourself and your belief that we can change this world for the better.

We love your family and you very much.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity,

Dear Mrs Michelle Obama,

Recently I was at my mother place for dinner and she said, “Mrs. Obama is a very beautiful woman, and they are such a matching couple.” My mother is an uneducated 85 years old woman born in China. My mother loves President Obama and she knows he is going to be a great President.

You do not need to change a bit but just watch what you going to say. Most importantly, you must not come across as a protecting wife because the President of United State of America is not only going to protect America but the world as well. Your strength lie in showing your soft side that is as a loving, caring, supporting and understanding wife.

Do you know why Singapore is so successful? Lee Kuan Yew greatest love is Singapore and Mrs Lee Kuan Yew one love is Lee Kuan Yew. Mrs Lee got more degrees than Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Everyone in Singapore knows she is the brain behind her husband and this woman never open her mouth at all. They are real partners not only building a beautiful family but a beautiful country as well for all Singaporeans.

Please don’t feel the pressure in this race, just relax and feel God’s love and the people’s love for your family.  Almighty God will be protecting President Barack Obama because he is the Blessed One.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity,

Sunflower Chong

Dear President Obama,

On this special day my family Gabriel, Greta and I wish you a very happy 47th birthday.

4+7 = 11, 1+1 = 2. For Chinese the no 2 represent harmony. On this special day you will bring Harmony to the whole world. Please be with your parents on this special day and let them know their beautiful and precious son Barack Obama will continue their good work to serve humanity.

Mohandas K. Gandhi said, “if your wishes are pure, then they become true.”

24 August 2008

Dear President Obama,

I forget to let you know that the quote that I share with you earlier is from a Chinese Proverb.

John McCain and many others do not understand the change that you are talking about. It is not that you want to play ‘god’ which the advert of John McCain is trying to portray you as one. But you are simply telling us if we want to live in a better world we got to change our mindset and this mean ‘GREED’ must be out of our mind. The new world that you are going to create for us is to put a heart in the Capitalist world.

Let me share with you this paper that came to my email when we did World Harmony Day in 2002.

“I am a novelist. My work is human nature. Real life is all I know.  Don’t ever confuse the two, your life and your work.  You will walk out of here this afternoon with only one thing that no one else has.  There will be hundreds of people doing what you want to do for a living.  But you will be the only person alive who has sole custody of your life.  Your particular life, Your entire life.  Not just your life at a desk, or your life on a bus, or in a car, or at the computer.  Not just the life of your mind, but the life of your heart.  Not just your bank accounts but also your soul.  People don’t talk about the soul very much anymore.  It’s so much easier to write a resume than to craft a spirit.  But a resume is a cold comfort on a winter night, or when you’re sad, or broke, or lonely, or when you’ve gotten back the test results and they’re not so good.

I’m a good mother to three children.  I have tried never to let my profession stand in the way of being a good parent.  I no longer consider myself the center of the universe.  I show up.  I listen.  I try to laugh.  I am a good friend to my husband.  I have tried to make marriage vows mean what they say.  I am a good friend to friends and they are to me.  Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today, because I would be a cardboard cutout.  I would be rotten, or at best mediocre at my job, if those other things were not true.

So here’s what I wanted to tell you today:  Get a life. A real life not a manic pursuit of the

next promotion, the bigger paycheck, the larger house.  Do you think you’d care so very much about these things if you blew an aneurysm one afternoon, or found a lump in your breast?  Get a life in which you notice the smell of salt water pushing itself on a breeze over Seaside heights, a life in which you stop and watch how a red-tailed hawk circles over the water or the way a baby scowls with concentration when she tries to pick up a Cheerio with her thumb and first finger. Get a life in which you are not alone.  Find people you love, and who love you.  And remember that love is not leisure it is work.

Pick up the phone.  Send an email.  Write a letter.  Get a life in which you are generous.  And realize that life is the best thing ever, and that you have no business taking it for granted.  Care so deeply about its goodness that you want to spread it around.  Take money you would have spent on beers and give it to charity.  Work in a soup kitchen.  Be a big brother or sister.

All of you want to do well.  But if you do not do good too, then doing well will never be enough.  It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours and our minutes.  It is so easy to take for granted the color of our kids’ eyes, the way the melody in a symphony rises and falls and disappears and rises again.  It is so easy to exist instead of living.  I learned to live many years ago.  I learned that it is not a dress rehearsal, and that today is the only guarantee you get.  I learned to look at all the good in the world and try to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and utterly.  And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I learned.  By telling them this: Consider the lilies of the field.  Look at the fuzz on a baby’s ear.  Read in the backyard with the sun on your face.  Learn to be happy.  And think of life as a terminal illness, because if you do, you will live it.”

Subject:   Spiritual Education In Schools                                                                 Date:   Fri, 5 Mar 2004 04:37:02 -0800

Yes, Sunflower,

I too have had that vision, as many of us that work for greater unity, beauty, harmony, love and spiritual clarity with the masses.  It only takes for some of us to hold that vision for that ‘energy’ to become manifest in time.  However, there is much dissention and ego in religion at this point in our evolution, and it is taking what in fact is taking place on many levels, for people to understand that our ways and paradigms must shift.

What you and I envision is what is indeed coming… although I can tell you with confidence that it will take much time, for the world has yet much healing to do.  This is what my work is about and what I cover in my lectures.  In fact, if you will check out the lecture topics (under about marcy roban at www.marcyroban.com- see lecture topics), you will see that I speak in schools trying to raise Consciousness.  I feel that all of us that hold this vision must contribute what our heart’s passion – and we will see it manifest.

Let’s work on a Universal Education in Spirituality.

You wrote, ” I really wish there is a universal education in spirituality”.  That is a great idea and I feel moved to do something with this idea.  I have a lot to learn and this can help me.  Maybe some other people may benefit as well but to start with, I’d do this for myself.  Would you like to join me?

Dear Sunflower,

Can education eradicate the conditions that breed hatred and antagonism around the world?

I feel that a universal spiritual education is so important and should be so integral to the educational experience.  But what is most challenging is how we can eradicate poverty, desolation, racial strife, and other conditions that make people who live within those conditions powerless and thus feel the need to dream up such madness as killing people with bombs.  How can we permanently impact the human mind and the human heart such that people will have the conscience to not take lives?

How can we touch our own hearts as well and transform ourselves as well. Because I believe that it is our lives, which is our true message not what we say but what we do.  Our lives are our message.  It is through us that God expresses Himself in all his forms and shapes.  It is us ultimately that will touch other lives and change them for better or for worse depending on what our example to them is.

YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA is our HOPE to build a better world for the future generation.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity,

Sunflower Chong

“It is within one power either to serve God, or not to serve Him.  Serving Him, I add to my own good of the whole world.  Not serving Him, I forfeit my own good and deprive the world of that good which was in my power to create” – Leo Tolstoy

Dearest President Obama,

Congratulations for your success.

You should not feel the pressure and the heavy burden on your shoulder because you are “The Chosen One”. God will sent you all the right people to help you build a better world for future generations. He already did by sending you not only 1 David but 2 Davids.

“We do not inherit this earth from our ancestor; we borrow it from our children.” – Haida Indian Saying.

Dear President Obama,

The essay “Thinking Out Loud” is a great awakening. It was written by Sara Rae who is a published columnist, U.S. Foreign Policy Fellow Researcher at the “Center for Strategic Thinking,” Southeast U.S. Regional anti-war/human rights coordinator, and publishing editor of the “Shock and Awe Photo Gallery.”

“Thinking Out Loud”

Two and a half years ago, as I sat in my international relations class at the local university, it hit me.  It was as if someone had punched me in the stomach.  I couldn’t breathe.  The room was spinning.  “I pledge allegiance to the flag and to the republic for which it stands one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”  It echoed strangely, as if from another life, as everything I was learning in my new journey taught me of a country built upon greed, racism, hate, corruption, and a “God in the eyes of the beholder” kind of God.  I took a crispy green dollar out of my pocket and stared sadly at “One Nation Under God,” an empty claim of a society that preaches market economy and material prosperity as the only “God.”

Everything I had been taught in elementary, high school, and even college, was merely some craftily created propaganda plan of those in power who want the people of this country to see things their way.  And I have to give them credit – they have been and continue to be enormously successful at deceiving the masses with their calculated strategy of nicely-packaged, finely-marketed “patriotism.”

What was it, exactly, that had triggered my “awakening?”  Our professor had instructed us to read “Ideology and U.S. Foreign Policy” by Michael Hunt.  An analysis of the words of our founding fathers and ideological bases for the rise of “America,” Hunt’s book presents the reality of the history of America.  From the “horses’ mouths,” it describes “One Nation Under God” as professed by the “founding fathers.”  The quotes I read from presidents I had admired sounded so “thuggish,” a dialogue from a virtual KKK screenplay.  A country built on the ideology of racism?  Not my country.  Right?  Could it be possible?

As a researcher, it was my obligation to investigate rather than blindly accepting what I had read, so I did.  And after some digging, I did, indeed, verify the quotes of those “great men.”  I was grief-stricken to learn this country – my country – rose to power through greed, racism, oppression, arrogance and egocentricity – none of which are admirable traits in the eyes of any compassionate human being. How could such monsters found anything but racism, bigotry and hatred, let alone a country?

How did this happen?  How could I have been so deceived?  By no means had I been some ultra-patriotic citizen.  I had no interest in politics and had never voted.  I did, however, have some sort of admiration for our “founding fathers” and the “home of the brave,” as do most good, average citizens of this country.

But what had caused my apathy and what had caused our apathy as American citizens as a whole?

After some serious soul-searching and an analysis of my past experiences and behavior, it became clear to me that I had been dumb down and taken in by the glitter and glitz of Hollywood and the mind-numbing intoxicant called television.  I had been raised and nurtured apathetic by society, and I could logically assume that this may be true for others in our country.

But whose fault was it?  My parents’ for not exposing me to other cultures? Society’s for perpetrating such a vicious crime?  Or mine for lazily expecting the truth to knock on my door?

As I delved deeper into the history of American Foreign Policy, I became even more horrified, as I am sure every good American would if he or she were to know the truth.  I abhor the fact that we, as a nation, imposed and continue to impose its imperialistic rule on other nations in blind pursuit of power and profit, and in the process rape the lands and culture of others (all in the name of liberty and freedom??)  What a paradox: “We will make you free.”  Free of what?  Free of tradition, culture, independence, and even life?  That does not sound like liberty to me.  Our leaders want everyone to be good “America Puppets.”  The “help” is only another excuse to dominate.

And who is America to bring “democracy” to others?  Let’s be honest.  People in this country are not equal.  Our votes don’t count.  And with the electronic voting system rigged, they won’t count no matter what.  Freedom?  Liberty?  Justice?  If you’ve got enough money.  America is a tyranny cleverly disguised as a democracy, which keeps us distracted with shiny objects, plastic surgery and 30-year mortgages.  And now we have our daily dose of “terrorism,” generated by our “trusted leaders,” and delivered by their servants, the media.

And what about those who die every day as a result of our foreign policy?  My heart breaks for the atrocities my country has and is committing.  What about the children who die of Malaria because the American drug companies are concerned about the “bottom line”?  What about the hundreds of thousands of Japanese who died when we “nuked” them?  What about the people who die every day of starvation while we pay Jenny Craig to help us lose weight?  What about the people who are brutally murdered with the weapons we supply to those who are oppressing them?  I’m sure that if my son were blown to pieces by an American-made missile one night while he was sleeping soundly in his bed, I, too, would hate America.  I’m sure that if my house were bulldozed by an American-made bulldozer paid for with American tax dollars, I, too, would hate America.  You’d better believe that we are responsible for it all and we will be held responsible.

Yes, I am bitter.  The ideology of American foreign policy goes against the values that I and every compassionate human being believe in: justice, equality, peace. Yet many “patriotic Americans,” without questioning what it really means, fill every available inch of space on their SUVs with “God Bless America,” and “Proud to be American” stickers, red, white and blue tattered squares of fabric clinging proudly to every window.  Proud?  The shame is overwhelming.

That being said, things must change.  We, as conscious human beings must work toward a new ideology.  As we have seen in the past, powerful nations who continue to conquer and colonialize in pursuit of greater material gains and in the exploitation of “others,”burn themselves to destruction.  If America continues on this path of material pursuits and egocentricity, there is only one potential end result: self-destruction – and it will happen if we don’t change our evil ways.

Yes, I will have to admit that at this point things appear to be nearly hopeless. Hundreds of thousands of us protested against the war in Iraq and it didn’t change anything.  Thousands continue to protest against U.S. Global Colonialization, so-called “globalization, or “free trade” to blind eyes and deaf ears.  There is evidence that the Bush Administration lied about WMDs, about the link between Iraq and 9-11, and the list goes on and on.  I cry at the deception and the blind faith the good people have, but I am sure if they knew what I know, they would speak out too.

I just know in my heart that if the people of this country knew the truth about the crimes our leaders, past and present, have committed and are committing they, too, would stand up, and join together to demand a change.  Right?  Any conscious individual with a knack for simple logical analysis, otherwise known as common sense, can see that Bush’s claim of others “hating our freedom” is a lie. What they hate is the brutal oppression and destruction our leaders carry out and support all across the globe.  And this administration has quickly escalated hatred for our country to a level never-yet experienced throughout history, a hatred for which we shall see the fruits of if we don’t act soon.

I’ll admit that it’s not a good feeling to find out everything you’ve believed in your entire life is a lie.  I remember how disappointed and betrayed I felt when I found out, at the age of four, there wasn’t really a Santa Clause.  Only four years of my life with a lie, and disappointment was overwhelming, but I knew, somehow, it was OK, because it was something I had to go through in order to become a “grown up.”  I was not a child anymore, limited to childhood fantasies, but on my way to becoming an adult.  Holding onto the belief in Santa Clause would render me a child forever, one refusing to grow up and take responsibility.

It’s time Americans grow up.  It’s much easier to continue in the comfortable land of fantasy, pretending everything is OK and not allowing any new information to burst that bubble, but as human beings, we have an obligation to our brothers and sisters of the world to search for the truth, no matter how painful, and when we find it, point out that which is wrong and make it right.

Turn off the television.  Read.  Learn.  Talk.  We must continue to awaken others, before it’s too late.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity,

Sunflower Chong

Dear President Obama,

The below poem was sent to me on World Harmony Day 2002.

Putting the ‘Great’ into a ‘Great Nation’

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – 1963

What makes a nation ‘great’?
Is it economic might?
Is it military might?
Is it glorious war victories?
Is it a nation that claims it has the right to go to war unprovoked to prevent another nation from using weapons that itself has designed while being the only nation in history to actually use these types of weapons?
Is it a nation whose largest industrial export is war-making equipment?
Is it a nation that spends fifty-six percent of its discretionary budget on its military, while spending only seven percent on educating its citizenry?
Is it a nation that claims to be overwhelmingly Christian but has forgotten a few simple principles; “thou shalt not kill, turn the other cheek, love your enemies, and do unto others as you’d have done to yourself”?
Is it a nation that has a health care system so expensive that forty-six million of its citizens cannot afford it?
Is it a nation where twenty-five percent of it’s homeless and downtrodden are people who supposedly fought in wars to keep it a great nation?
Is it a class structure that leaves the poor behind?

Is it a justice system that favors the rich and ignores the poor? (We all want justice but you’ve got to have the money to buy it.)
Is it a violent crime rate at least fifty times that of its next rival?
Is it a broken home rate approaching sixty percent?
Is it a nation that consumes at least forty percent of the world’s natural resources while containing only five percent of the population? (If everyone in the world consumed as much as we do, we would need six planets to sustain us.)
Is it a nation that creates a significant amount of the world’s air pollution and when asked to join the rest of the world (The Kyoto Protocol) to try to curb the problem says “no, not if it affects our economy”?
Is it a nation that gives 0.1 percent of its GNP to poor nations while other wealthy nations give five percent or fifty times as much?
Is it a nation that has a one party political system disguised as a two party system, excludes all other parties from national election debates, and claims to be the last bastion of democracy?

Or could a great nation be one that values justice and equality above all and for all both social and economic?
Or is it a nation that actively plans for the future of its children, and their children, and their children?
Or is it a nation that realizes that without clean water, air, or soil, life is insupportable?
Or is it a nation that works toward world peace instead of using war as the first and only solution to disagreements with other nations?
Or is it a nation that provides universal health care for all of its citizenry? (When doctors become businessmen, who will the people turn to when they need a doctor?)
Or is it a nation that cares for it’s downtrodden? (We are judged by how we treat the least among us.)
Or is it a nation that works toward racial and social harmony by education its citizenry on how discrimination is destructive and not constructive?
Or is it a nation that seeks to educate its citizenry on past wrongs it committed so that they can correct and not repeat them in the future? (He is a lover of country who rebukes and does not deny its sins.)
Or is it nation that allows all great thinkers and new ideas into the national debate in order to build a progressive structure of harmony and tolerance, both foreign and domestic?
If a nation is to be considered great, it should be judged as such by “the contents of its character”.

“If you’re not part of the future, then get out of the way.” — John Cougar Mellencamp – 2001.

After the cold war my imagination of the “New World Order” was that the intellectuals from the great nations would come together to brainstorm as one people and one world for the sake of greater humanity. Like for instant the great scientists from Russian, China, Europe and America can come together to find the best way out for medical research for the sake of greater humanity instead of just profiteering.  But so far non-is in existence, even in the research of HIV there were so much controversy, where is the hope for humanity?  Where is their ‘Collective Consciousness’? There is so much work to do to put this world back to its original form but instead we are dividing it more and more by the leaders false pride and worse of all human GREED!  Mahatma Gandhi said: “The earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”

Dear First Lady Michelle Obama,

A Journalist asked Jacky Kennedy what is the duty of First Lady and this was her reply, “To take care of my husband so he could best serve the nation.”

“Mom in Chief” is the best job in the world because the children grow so far.

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let our bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Dear President Obama,

I just came back from Malaysia recently and I got this article is from the local paper Starbizweek (6 Dec 08)

The Obama Dilemma

A lot of us worldwide and the majority of Americans in the States were delighted when Barack Obama won the Presidential election.

Everybody in all corners of the world celebrated this “universal victory”.

Simultaneously, this raised the hopes and expectations on this young man whose father is an African, whose mother worked in Indonesia and who was the first black to become the

President of Law Society in Harvard Law School.

The next president of the United States was first a community leader before becoming politician. He was a teacher before becoming a lawyer.

He was not privy to the “born with the silver spoon” syndrome. It would be an understatement to say that he is knowledgeable of the problems of the common man.

What does this momentous occasion mean to the US? Obama’s fate is such that he has ascended the highest political position in his country when not only the US, but the rest of the world as well, is grappling with the worst economic crisis ever to strike us.

He hit the proverbial nail right on the head, when he said it’s time for change especially with all the miserably failed policies in the last two to three decades.

His election message of “Hope and Change” is more timely than ever before not just for the US but also  the entire watching world.

More than the credit and economic problems, he has to create employment for 2.5 million unemployed Americans almost immediately. Also, he’s confronted with a battered image of the US worldwide.

On top of all this, he has to solve the education and health problems at home, the mishaps in the housing industry and the need to improve the infrastructure of the US.

His slogan of “Yes We Can” should ring throughout his tenure in the White House, to ensure all these objectives are achieved.

The Americans were great after the Second World War helping the Europeans to liberate themselves from Hilter. In the Far East, the Japanese made the biggest mistake of bombing Pearl Harbour. The Americans become heros in the Far East as well. Thereafter, they got involved in the Korean War. They then had to withdraw from Vietnam with a destroyed image and tattered pride.

Lately, as a reaction to Sept 11, they not only went to Afghanistan but also got involved in getting rid of that, the term “Axis of Evil” has become more a symbol of the arrogance of the US than the intended fear to be instilled in nations such as Iran and North Korea. Somehow, the American image turned from heroes after World War II to becoming the Ugly American at the turn of this century.

Suffice to say the preceding president has played a big part in the negative perception of the US with policies often in conflict with the expectations of the rest of the world. Obama has promised to withdraw from Iraq within 18 months and will begin to look at the US problems instead of the world’s problems.

For the rest of us in the world, not only Iraq needs super power involvement but probably the African states including Darfur and Congo; the problems in Myanmar need solutions as well. Perhaps if the US could pay as much attention to problems in all regions and not just the economically justifiable ones, they would shed the image of self-importance disguised as liberators of the world.

With all countries embroiled in their own economic problems, there would be no solution in sight from a lot of smaller countries with massive problems. For decades, the US has pumped into many parts of the world to the tune of US$70bil per annum.

With the anti-American feeling generated worldwide, the Americans may wonder whether their assistance is required, especially if it’s not appreciated.

Economically, the US threw the Marshall Plan in 1949 and was magnanimous enough to oversee and contribute to the rebuilding of Japan with two decades.

Japan emerged as a super efficient country, culminating in the Olympics in 1964. Until the 1980s, many books were written on the productivity, quality and management systems of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Then they favoured Taiwan because of its problems with China and they gave a helping hand to South Korea because of Communist problems in North Korea. All these nations were known as the Dragons of the Far East.

In the last two decades, the free market system in the US allowed their companies to source for cheaper goods from China, which soon became the factory of the world.

The resulting influx of investment into China and demand for Chinese goods, resulted in the significant growth of the manufacturing output of that country. As evidence of China’s major role in today’s trade, out of the 450 million containers in the world, China accounts for 125 million.

This free market principle also saw the Americans initially outsourcing a lot of their back office services, especially in IT, to India. This was merely a stepping stone to the outsourcing of even more of their businesses to “third world” countries. And it is no secret that 30% of lecturers in most American universities are from Asia, mainly India. Given this scenario of helping many nations worldwide, politically and economically, the Americans suddenly find themselves as a besieged nation with massive economic and social problems.

This is not an easy task for any president and one wonders whether Obama will have time for the rest of the world.

Fortunately, at the last Apec conference held over the week in Peru, the world leaders promised not to put any inhibition on world trade. This means the massive globalised world of the last three decades has hope of continuing to be inter-dependent on nations.

The advantage of globalisation is reflected in world trade which has grown 10% per annum over the last 20 years. In the world of containers as a measure of world trade, the US accounts for only 10% whilst Intra-Asia accounts for 45% and Europe another 15%.

In terms of infrastructure, the rest of the world seems to have moved ahead of the US.

The French discovered the fast train at 200 miles an hour, the Japanese with bullet train at 300 miles an hour and the Chinese have gravitational trains at 450 miles an hour. But in US, the train system is stilled based on the original form.

In terms of ports, there is massive congestion and shipping lines have claimed that they lost US$200bil in terms of waiting time. The US was a tourist haven for many Asians, especially Indians and most of the Middle East but all this was hampered after Sept 11, 2001.

No doubt, Obama will be good for the US. But will the Americans be able to discard the ugly American image to one of the handsome Obama?

Whilst asking the US to embrace the policies of other nations is rather far fetched at this juncture, merely respecting the rights of other countries to champion their causes would shed much needed favourable light on them.

Does finding jobs for Americans mean the implementation of protectionist measures to safeguard their companies and provide massive incentives to Americans produce at home instead of outsourcing this to India or China?

It is surprising that one in ten Americans is involved in the automotive industry but US has only 40% market share in the industry. Does giving jobs to Americans mean more manufacturing at home and larger share of the US automotive industry?

Similarly, will Americans want to produce everything themselves again and spend billions reviving their industries and infrastructure? What will this mean for free trade globalisation? By 2010, we will know whether the Americans will revert to the Monroe doctrine and America for the Americans.

Dear President Obama,

This article “Because We Are Jews” was sent to me on World Harmony Day.

Having a sense of right and wrong is having “The Consciousness”. Rabbi Mordechi Weberman gives the World Hope. We must keep on Hoping and Rabbi Mordechi attitude towards Palestinians suffering gives us hope that we can still heal this world of Hate to a world of LOVE.

“Because We Are Jews”

There are those who ask us why we march with the Palestinians. Why do we raise the Palestinian flag? Why do we support the Palestinian cause?

“You are Jews!” they tell us. “What are you doing?”

And our response, which I’d like to share with you this afternoon, is very simple.

Yes, in our Torah we are commanded to be fair. We are called upon to pursue justice. And, what could be more unjust then the century old attempt of the Zionist movement to invade another people’s land, to drive them out and steal their property?

The early Zionists proclaimed that they were a people without a land going to a land without a people.

Innocent sounding words.

But utterly and totally untrue.

Palestine was a land with a people. A people that were developing a national consciousness.

We have no doubt that would Jewish refugees, have come to Palestine not with the intention of dominating, not with the intention of making a Jewish state, not with the intention of dispossessing, not with the intention of depriving the Palestinians of their basic rights, that they would have been welcomed by the Palestinians, with the same hospitality that Islamic peoples have shown Jews throughout history. And we would have lived together as Jews and Muslims lived before in Palestine in peace and harmony.

To our Islamic and Palestinian friends around the world, please hear our message —

There are Jews around the world who supports your cause. And when we support your cause we do not mean some partition scheme proposed in 1947 by a UN that had no right to offer it.

When we say support your cause we do not mean the cut off and cut up pieces of the West Bank offered by Barak at Camp David together with justice for less than 10 % of the refugees.

We do not mean anything other than returning the entire land, including to Jerusalem to Palestinian sovereignty!

At that point justice demands that the Palestinian people should decide if and how many Jews should remain in the Land.

This is the only path to true reconciliation.

But we demand yet more. WE demand that in returning the land back to its rightful owners we have not yet done enough. There should be an apology to the Palestinian people, which is clear and precise. Zionism did you wrong. Zionism stole your homes. Zionism stole your land.

By so proclaiming we proclaim before the world that we are the people of the Torah, that our faith demands that we be honest and fair and good and kind.

We have attended hundreds of pro Palestinian rallies over the years and everywhere we go the leaders and audience greet us with the warmth of Middle Eastern hospitality. What a lie it is to say that Palestinians in particular or Muslims in general hate Jews. You hate injustice. Not Jews.

Fear not my friends. Evil cannot long triumph. The Zionist nightmare is at its end. It is exhausted. Its latest brutalities are the death rattle of the terminally ill.

We will yet both live to see the day when Jew and Palestinian will embrace in peace under the Palestinian flag in Jerusalem.

And ultimately when mankind’s Redeemer will come the sufferings of the present will long be forgotten in the blessings of the future.

On 20th January 2009, President Obama will say Enough is Enough!

Palestinians and Israeli must not be selfish anymore because the attack on Gaza by Israel is pulling the world down.  Is Israel testing President Obama resolve?

Israel force vs Palistine is way to much!  |  Report to Admin Reply

My last name is Berkowitz but I actually think that Isreal is going way overboard with the violence they are showing against Palistine.

Its almost the exact same thing that Russia was doing to Georgia, and the world was outraged.

I wish Obama would also break the mold and say that what they are doing is excessive and tell them to back off. they are starting a war that is unnessesary. This is the worst possible time for such a conflict, and I wish Obama would step up and say that things have to change for real. Not just words. that he will be a president that will see both sides.

I dont know. It just seems to me that the deaths, and injuries suffered by one side, are way too much for what was done to them to provoke it.

This is coming from a Jew.

I agree 100%. Would you mine posting your comment to Change.gov, it may be more affective there. I am supporter for peace in any region of the world and I am also a supporter of every ethnic group who has been subjected to hate and violence. But this time around I do not support the actions of Israel, I think their actions are very extreme and hundreds of Palestinians’ lives have been lost because of the recent attacks. PE Obama should not support Israel.

It is the unfairness act conducted by the past America govt that anger the whole world who now await for true justice from President Obama.

22 January 2009

Dearest President Obama,

President Obama will govern with Openness and Great Spirit.

“Openness – Spirit: Do we reject other people’s views and ways of doing things, instead of being open and positive towards them? God speaks through situations, peoples and even in painful situations. Sincerity and openness are essential if we want to seek God’s Truth and Will.”

The financial crisis is God’s intervention and Mr Sullenberger heroic act is good omen.

You are born on the day of the “Guiding Light”. The invitation of Mr Sullenberger and his family to your inauguration is a sign that you heard God’s call.

We are living in God’s world and not men’s world because it is God who had created this one world. God created men to help Him runs His world hence we are the servants of God. We must adhered God’s law and serve Him well by bringing back His presence in governance. Marriage is between a man and a woman, this law cannot be compromised!! If ANY LEADER tried to do so they are indirectly destroying God’s creation and they will be the greater sinner of all! The LOST of Morality is the LOST of Humanity!! The government can give the gay the space but NEVER the right to make their union morally acceptable in the eye of God and men.

Why God has chosen President Barack Obama to lead His world? Humanity is at the edge of destruction and God has chosen you to HEAL and UNITE us by upholding His law to bring everlasting peace, harmony and unity back to our world.

Next time when you ask God for blessing please don’t just bless America but the world as well. You are not just a leader for America you are the world most powerful and most compassionate leader for all.

As you have witnessed from this inauguration we LOVE you very much and will constantly pray for your health and safety.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity,

“When a nation got no ideas it is because the individuals have not.” – Frank L. Wright.

Dear President Obama,

Mahatma Ghandi gave an advice to his son before he died. He said, “If you believe in something strongly, you have to go all the way to achieve it. In the middle of the journey, if you discover that it is a mistake then you must give it up immediately. But if you still believe it is the right thing to do, then you should pursue it until the day you die.” In short, he was telling his son not to give up if he still believes in his dream.

What my mother said had left a very strong footprint in my mind, “It is so sad that no one is prepared to make sacrifices in life to chase for a higher ideal and if we continue in this manner to chase after money we will lose our soul and thus be heartless and this will be very sad for humanity.” My mother said that it was very sad that the people very existence is just to chase after money instead for a higher ideal.  What I could not believe to hear from my uneducated mother mouth was when she said, “If we do not chase for a higher ideal in life we are just living like animals.”

Secondly, we will not only lose the meaning and purpose of our life but it will be a great lost for humanity? She said that the world would go from bad to worst; what she really meant was that the future society will be a cold and heartless one without compassion for our fellowmen, except for themselves as the ‘Me’ factor will be a very strong influence in our life especially when the whole world embraced Capitalism as a newfound “Religion”. This means there is no Hope for mankind. I often asked God, “Why have we lost faith in men by surrendering to our destiny instead to fight back with our strength and belief? We should make the world as it should be instead of accepting it as it is.

World Harmony Day is a good way to bring us to world unity and spiritual education is the key. Whether anyone acknowledge my work or not is not important. What’s is important is that I needed to be in harmony with ‘The Consciousness’ or with Almighty God. People like me who believe in spirituality must do God’s job, come what may, I know God will guide me to the true path. And the true path is to nurture a compassionate society to build a better world for the children. Loving God is striving for greater humanity that’s what World Harmony Day is all about – Peace, Harmony and Unity.

Love, light, peace, harmony and unity,

Sunflower Chong
